Living in Hāmākua

Honokaʻa’s main street still looks like the plantation town it was, with a historic theater, cafés, and antique shops. Around it, old cane land has become small farms, orchards, and homes with long views of the coast.

Hāmākua sits between two bigger towns: Waimea is about 20 minutes away for groceries, schools, and Queen’s North Hawaiʻi Community Hospital , and Hilo is about an hour. Many people choose it for cooler weather and space at a lower price than Waimea.
