Oʻahu Furnished Rentals
Extended stays on the Gathering Place, from city condos in Honolulu to beach towns on the Windward side and the North Shore.
Why Stay a While on Oʻahu
Oʻahu is home to about a million people, roughly two-thirds of Hawaiʻi’s population, and it’s the center of the state’s jobs, hospitals, universities, and military bases. It’s also the island where you can work downtown all week, then spend Saturday on a quiet Windward beach or a mauka (mountain-side) trail with barely any traffic, as long as you leave early.
That makes it the most practical island for longer stays: traveling nurses, military ʻohana (families) between assignments, remote workers, students, and people testing out island life before a move.
Explore the Regions
From city high-rises to country surf towns, where you stay on Oʻahu shapes your commute, your weather, and your weekends.

Living on Oʻahu
Climate
Oʻahu is warm year-round. The Leeward (west) side is the hottest and driest, the Windward (east) side is greener and wetter, and the valleys behind Honolulu get regular showers. Winter brings big waves to the North Shore and the occasional cool, rainy spell.
Getting Around
Oʻahu has the best public transit in the state. TheBus covers the whole island, and the Skyline rail line serves parts of West and Central Oʻahu. Many people in central Honolulu live without a car. Everywhere else, you’ll probably want one, and plan around H-1 rush hour.
Airport
Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) in Honolulu is the state’s main airport, with the most mainland, international, and inter-island flights.
Health Care
Oʻahu has the most comprehensive medical care in Hawaiʻi, including The Queen’s Medical Center , the state’s largest hospital, and major facilities run by Kaiser Permanente , Hawaiʻi Pacific Health , and Adventist Health Castle in Kailua.
Military
Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam , Schofield Barracks , and Marine Corps Base Hawaii at Kāneʻohe Bay are all on Oʻahu, so furnished rentals are in demand from military families during PCS moves.
Costs
Honolulu is one of the most expensive places to live in the U.S. Ask whether utilities, internet, and parking are included, since all three add up quickly. Electricity comes from Hawaiian Electric , and water from the Board of Water Supply .
Outdoors
Two of Oʻahu’s best-known outings now need planning ahead. Diamond Head State Monument (Lēʻahi) requires advance reservations for out-of-state visitors, and Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve runs on a reservation system too. Once you’re a resident, you’ll find plenty of trails and beaches that don’t.

Oʻahu Rental FAQ
What is the minimum stay for an Oʻahu rental?
In most residential and apartment zones on Oʻahu, the minimum rental period is 90 days. Shorter stays are allowed only in certain cases: properties in resort-zoned areas (such as parts of Waikīkī, Ko Olina, and Turtle Bay), properties with a nonconforming use certificate, and 30 to 89 day rentals that were lawfully operating before the rules changed in 2022. If you’re planning a stay shorter than 90 days, ask the owner which applies. Details are on the Honolulu Department of Planning and Permitting site.
Do I need a car on Oʻahu?
Not if you live and work in central Honolulu, where TheBus and walking cover most needs. Anywhere else on the island, a car makes life much easier.
Where do military families usually stay?
It depends on the duty station. Families stationed at Pearl Harbor-Hickam often look in Honolulu, ʻAiea, Pearl City, and ʻEwa. Schofield Barracks is near Wahiawā and Mililani, and Marine Corps Base Hawaii is in Kāneʻohe on the Windward side.
Which area is best for remote work?
Honolulu has the most reliable internet and the most coworking options. Kailua and Kāneʻohe are popular for a quieter setting within reach of town. Always confirm internet speeds with the owner before you book; a quick speed test screenshot is a fair thing to ask for.
