Central Maui Furnished Rentals

Kahului and Wailuku: the airport, the hospital, shopping, and county offices, in the island’s working heart.

Central Maui is where the island goes about its day. Kahului has the airport, harbor, and big-box stores; Wailuku, the county seat, has historic streets, local diners, and the gateway to ʻĪao Valley. It’s practical, central, and kamaʻāina (local) through and through, with every part of Maui within an easy drive.

Living in Central Maui

Central Maui is less about postcards and more about real life. Kahului is close to the airport and every errand, while Wailuku has older neighborhoods, small shops, and county offices. Maui Memorial Medical Center, run by Maui Health , is here, which makes the area a natural fit for health care workers.

Housing is mostly homes and townhouses rather than resort condos, and rents tend to be lower than on the coast. You’re about 30 minutes from South Maui beaches, 45 minutes from West Maui, and a short climb to Upcountry.

Neighborhoods

  • Kahului: close to the airport, harbor, and shopping centers.
  • Wailuku: the historic county seat, with older homes and a small, walkable downtown.
  • Waikapū and Waiheʻe: quieter residential areas with newer homes and mountain views.
  • Māʻalaea: a small, windy harbor with oceanfront condos between Central and South Maui.

Before you sign

Good to Know

  • Afternoon winds can be strong, especially in Kahului and Māʻalaea.
  • Fewer furnished condos here; more homes and ʻohana (in-law) units.
  • Traffic around Kahului builds at rush hour.
  • ʻĪao Valley may require reservations for visitors. Check before you go.
  • Ask which utilities are included. Electricity costs far more here than on the mainland.
